A quick update on a successful surgery that took place today. It was held at the Institute of Liver and Binary Sciences, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. A team of surgeons operated upon him for 5 hours and were able to block the “leakage in his intestines”. The surgery was considered successful and hopefully Magan should be on a path to recovery now.

Attempting to scale Mount Everest for the fourth time, Magan Bissa has paid dearly for his ambition. The mountaineer suffered an injury during the expedition to Everest in May this year and is now in a critical condition. Real Personalities of Bikaner Shri Magan Bissa Mountaineer So what if there is less obstruction for water pouring clouds for Rajasthan, but the sand of Bikaner has given birth to this Great Mountaineer who had made the Highest Mountain peak “The Everest” diminutive. Born on December 8, 1954 Shri Magan Bissa, son of Late Sh. Panna Lal Bissa, had done Masters in Commerce of Business Administration from Univ. of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He has worked as Officer (Adventure Programmes) inTATA Steel, Jamshedpur. He did his Basic Mountaineering course from H.M.I. Darjeeling in 1978. And in the same year finished Advanced Mountaineering course from same place. In 1979 he attended the IMF Advanced Climbing Camp held at Goumukh. He did his basic Snow-Skiing and Water Skiing course at IIS&M Gulmarg in 1983. Learned Sky-Diving in 1982, from Indian Sky Diving Federation Agra.    He was appointed as Liaison Officer with Spanish, Japanese Expedition to Mt. Bathartoli, Meru Mt. Chaturangi in 1979-80. In 1981 he was one of the member Japanese Rescue cum Search team to Mt. Nandakhat to search seven missing person of Japan. From 1979 to 1986 he remained Camp Leader, Establishment Officer and Joint Director of National Himalayan Trekking Programme. He leaded the very First Expedition from Rajasthan, named as Desert to Snow, to Mt. Gangotri II and Mt. Rudragara in 1981. In 1982 he leaded the team for Pre-Everest Expedition to Mt. Gangotri I. He participated in Indian Everest Expedition to Mt Everest, opened route to South Co1,  reached South CI thrice reached upto 28,000 ft to support summit team in1984. Leaded Mt. Deo Tibba Expedition from Rajasthan 1985. Appointed Dy. Leader of Indo-Australian Expedition to Mt. Rimo (Karakoram Range) and opened the tough technical route (max) in 1985. Participated in Indo-British Army Mt. Saser Kangri Expedition (Karakoram Range) in 1987 and climbed the mountain directly from advance base camp in single 8 Hours push with 6,000 Ft. lead. Leaded Tata’s Mt. ShriKailash Expedition in 1988. Explored as Climbing Leader and Summiter Indo-Russian Mt. Our friend MAGAN BISSA, a leading mountaineer of the country and a veteran of 4 Everest Expeditions and summiter of mountains such as Nanda Devi , Saser Kangri and many more mountains, was looking forward to making his fourth attempt at summitting Mount Everest His first was in 1984 with the Sucessful IMF expedition which put the first Indian women Bachendri Pal on top of Everest.

He was a member of the team from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, India. Unfortunately on 07 May 2009, at camp 3 he fell ill and his serious condition needed immediate, invasive medical attention. He was promptly evacuated from the base camp to Kathmandu. An immediate surgery followed that led to the removal of 80% of his intestine! Sheer grit and determination helped him recover and return home.
